Wiksten Haori Jacket Review

I have been watching the Instagram tag for the Wiksten Haori jacket and finally bit the bullet and made one from fabric that was already in my studio.

The pattern is easy to follow and well-written. It took me about 2 hours to make the jacket, after I taped together the pattern pieces.
Update on December 23, 2020. I have worn this jacket, almost daily since I made it in August. When we run errands in town, as long as it’s not down coat weather, I throw on my Wiksten haori jacket. It has also replaced my typical hoodie sweatshirt layer in the house. I love this jacket.

My finished Wiksten Haori jacket, a Japanese-inspired design. I used thrifted denim yardage, that I dipped into my experimental indigo vat for a richer color. I lined the body with a luxury sherpa fleece that I’ve had in my studio for 25 years, having bought it on sale at a quilt shop. The sleeves are lined with a brushed homespun fabric from Cosmic Cow, my favorite local quilt shop.

Sleeve hem detail. The jacket is sewn as one piece, along the hem, then turned inside itself, (the pattern instructions make this very clear,) leaving only the sleeve hem to finish and the collar.

In less than 2 hours, a new jacket to wear on a road trip. It is so easy to slip on and off, feels cozy, but not too warm, with the fleece lining. The pockets are perfect for catching my phone and pocketbook when I don’t want to carry a purse.

Crazy hair and the collar still needing to be stitched down, but I love it!
