Come join us on the 2022 Love Like You Mean It Cruise. This will be the 9th sailing that my husband and I have been on with Family Life. We love it.
Read MoreThis recipe tastes just like my mom’s old-fashioned liver and onions. And, since I’m tying to get my iron up so I can give blood, liver and onions is on the menu I’m the only one in my family who likes liver, so I don’t make it often.
If you like gravy with your liver, it’s simple to do with the pan drippings and some flour and milk, if you are an adventurous sort.
I always hope to have a little leftover to make a liver and onions sandwich, with melted mozzarella on homemade sourdough bread, the following day.
Everyone in my family loves a soothing lavender eye pillow, used cool for headache relief or tension, or warm for muscle stiffness. I’ve tried to make this easy enough for a beginning seamstress! Let me know if anything is not clear!
Personally, I love using an eye pillow when I take a nap or after a yoga session.
Details: Lavender eye pillows can be used cool or warm. You can simply throw rice in a cotton sock, and tie the end shut. But, if you want to give them as gifts, (they make a great gift,) or love the hygge way, you might want to choose a cotton print or even a lovely linen. And guess what? You can use upcycled fabric, or new!
For the following instructions, I have a fat quarter of orange batik fabric, and scraps of cotton flannel. Let’s get started.
You will need 2 rectangles of fabric 5x11”, 1 1/2 cupswhite rice or flaxseed, and 1/2 cup dried lavender buds.
1. Cut 2 pieces of fabric, 5” x 11” . My boys use these so I cut them a little bigger than I used to! It’s not critical.
2. Take one rectangle and lay it on top of the other, right sides together.
3. Sew around 3 sides, with a short stitch so your seeds don’t sneak through, and a 3/8” seam allowance. Secure the beginning and end with backstitching. Trim the 2 corners, being careful not to clip through stitching.
4. Turn the pillow inside out, and turn the unstitched end 1/2” and press.
Now, it’s ready for your lavender and flaxseed filling. You can also use white rice.
You can fill your lavender pillow with flaxseeds or white rice.
6. You might have a funnel, or you might do like I do and make an impromptu funnel out of a pattern on your cutting table! Pour the flaxseeds and lavender into your pillow rectangle.
7. Stitch across the open end, backstitching at the beginning and the end.
That’s it! Your lavender flaxseed (or rice) eye pillow is ready to use!
Store in a sealed ziploc bag to keep it clean. I keep one in the freezer for a soothing aromatherapy pillow over my eyes. You can also set the lavender flaxseed pillow on a clean plate and microwave it 15-30 seconds. Every microwave is different, so try 15 seconds at a time. This is one of my favorite things for a stiff neck.
Try this and let me know if I can improve the instructions!
