Making a rope bowl with a lid

Do you sew during the Super Bowl? I only watch football when it is paired with a social event. Otherwise, I plan a day in my sewing room.

With few gatherings going on right now, I was granted such a Super Bowl sewing day this year.

I often think of something new I want to try with my rope bowls in the middle of the night and until I get to my machine, it just wiggles around in my head.

I never sketch anything out, but prefer to sit down at the sewing machine with rope in hand and just start sewing.

The rope used here is 1/4” sash cord from Tractor Supply. It was the first rope I used because I had some leftover from fixing all our windows at our previous hours. This cotton rope has a poly core. It makes stiff sided bowls, which I really like. I’m testing out some 100% cotton rope from an American company and I’m excited to be supporting an American company.

The lid on this bowl was started just like I start my bowls, but with a hole in the center to accommodate the rope handle. I made a large coaster, then use my steam iron to give it a lid shape.

Have you made a rope bowl? What’s your favorite rope? I love trying new things.
