Sewing a Cat Inspired Rope Coaster - Video Demo
I love sewing baskets and bowls with cotton rope. I’ve used just about any firm cotton rope I can find locally. Cotton sash cord often has a nylon core which makes the cotton rope less stretchy and more durable and the coasters or bowls made from that rope hold their shape better. You do have to consider the ends when cutting it if you don’t want to see the nylon core.
The coaster in this short video tutorial is 3/16 inch braided cotton weeping cord from Knot and Rope, where I order most of my rope now. They give bulk order discounts and have great customer service. Just talking about it makes me want to order some rope, just because.
Craft stores will sell rope too, but you’ll generally pay a lot more, because it’s packaged for crafters. But, if you only need a small piece or are just experimenting with this craft for the first time, that may be all you need.
I created a tutorial with pictures and lost it, so if you prefer a step by step, that will be coming this week. Such is the life of a beginning blogger.
Have fun! I love making rope coasters!
